School exposures

Interior Health (IH) is working in partnership with school districts to support information-sharing when there are COVID-19 exposures at schools.

When a case of COVID-19 is confirmed, IH public health will work quickly to determine close contacts, and will contact parents/guardians of students who are considered to be at risk.

We update the list below with information on possible exposures to COVID-19 within schools in our region. We are providing this information so school staff, students and parents can be confident that we are following up in your community and exposure risks are being reduced as much as possible.

If you or your child develop any symptoms of COVID-19, please get tested and then self isolate.

For more information, see the BCCDC page on Schools, including the Daily Health Check Form to determine if a student should attend school.

COVID-19 school notification process:

If a student or teacher receives a confirmed positive COVID-19 test result, Interior Health does the following:

  • We begin the process of contact tracing to determine how the person was infected and who they were in close contact with.
  • We identify and notify close contacts who may be at an increased risk, and advise them to self isolate and monitor for symptoms for 14 days.
  • We work closely with the school and school district throughout the case and contact tracing process to maintain close communication with the school community.

IH public health determines close contacts of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 using specific criteria, based on likelihood of transmission.

If your child’s school receives a notification of exposure:

A “school exposure notification” does not mean all students at the school have been exposed to COVID-19.

If you do not receive a phone call or letter from Interior Health, your child should continue to attend school. You can monitor your child for COVID-19 symptoms daily using the BC COVID-19 Health Assessment Tool.

After 14 days, school exposures listed below will be archived.
