To support testing of people who meet specific criteria, new testing guidelines from the BCCDC limit testing to people with symptoms who are:
- Hospitalized or are likely to be hospitalized
- Health-care workers
- Residents of long term care facilities
- Part of an investigation of a cluster or outbreak
Process for testing for COVID-19
Interior Health is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control to respond to COVID-19.
To support testing of people who meet specific criteria, Interior Health has opened 14 referral-only COVID-19 screening clinics across Interior Health in 100 Mile House, Salmon Arm, Williams Lake, Nelson, Trail, Cranbrook, Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Revelstoke, Sparwood, Grand Forks, and Golden. Testing at these clinics will occur by appointment for people who have been referred by their primary care provider or an 8-1-1 nurse. The locations of the clinics are listed below.
If you are experiencing symptoms (such as new fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing), you may use the online screening tool here.
You should also contact your primary care provider or call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 to be assessed. People living in the Interior Health region who are assessed by their provider or 8-1-1 as requiring follow-up will be directed to contact their local clinic. A triage nurse at the clinic will then assess referred patients over the phone to determine if an appointment for testing is needed.
It is important that people do not call or attend the screening clinic unless referred by a primary care provider or an 8-1-1 nurse. This will assist in managing volumes and ensuring care is available to those who need it.
Interior Health is actively working to open COVID-19 referral-only screening clinics in additional communities, and will share those when they are operational.
